Languages through Lenses 2012 , Call for Proposals

The competetion is for new audiovisual productions that are innovative, witty, creative, unexpected, motivating and that explore the potential of multilingualism and the challenges it creates. They should deliver a clear message, be self-explanatory and easily understandable to a broad public with different backgrounds and mother tongues.
The filmmakers could use any European language or a combination of languages and use any digital technique.

Who are the organisers?

ELIA - European League of Institutes of the Arts - in cooperation with CILECT- International Association of Film and Television Schools - is organising this competition on behalf of the European Commission and in partnership with PRIX EUROPA.

Deniz YENGİN

He was born in 1978 in Istanbul. He graduated from Bilgi University, Faculty of Economics and  Administrative   Sciences. He completed his graduate degree at Istanbul Kültür University, Social Sciences Institute’s Communication Design program. He  completed his PhD at Marmara University, Social Sciences Institute Information Technology department. He is teaching at Istanbul Kültür University. Furthermore, he is also working extensively in the fields of information, communication technologies, new media and digital games .

Cem Kağan Uzunöz

He graduated top of his class from Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Film and Television in 1989. In 1994 he completed his graduate degree in Film/Television and Photography and in 2003 finished the Film and Television arts program of the same faculty. He has worked in many national and international film, documentary and advertisement crews as a producer and director. He has opened many personal and group photograph exhibitions. He not only has worked as an advertisement director, but has also held positions as associate dean and department head. He has been teaching classes in film directing and producing since 1999. He published his fictional novel called “Kırmızı Sırt Çanakkale 1915” in 2008.

Sabri Özaydın

Born in 1950 in the city of Gemlik, Professor Özaydın graduated from the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory’s theatre department. He went on to complete his undergraduate studies at Munich’s Film and Television University. He has directed many documentaries and fiction films for German television. He completed his graduate degree at Marmara University’s Faculty of Fine Arts. He has worked as department head and dean of many private and public universities. Amongst his directorial works are “Yörük Anadolu Göçerleri (1976)”, “Bulut Ailesinin Geri Dönüşü (1978-1981)” (The Return of the Bulut Family), Aydın Ailesinin Yaşamında Bir Gün (1983) (A day in the Life of the Aydın Family) ”, and “Yol (2000) (Road)”.

Salih Kalafatoğlu

A director, producer and writer, he was born in Safranbolu in 1955. In 1978, he graduated from Istanbul Fine Arts Academy (currently Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts), Graphic Design Department. He worked in the Turkish film industry as assistant director and producer between 1974 and 1979. In 1983 he founded his own production company Sineskop and started to produce and direct advertisements. In 1987 he wrote scripts and directed for TRT 1’s “Barış Manço ile 7’den 22’ye” program. In 1992, he created and directed the program “Görüntü ve Müzik” (Image and Music) for TRT 2. In 1993, he also wrote and directed the dramatic documentart “Hayatım Sinema” for TRT 2, followed by  the documentaries “Sesler, Yüzler, Sokaklar” (Voices, Faces, Streets), and “Istanbul İskeleleri” (The docks of Istanbul).  In 1994 he received the support of the Ministry of Culture for the script of “Kaybolmuş Öyküler” (Lost Tales). In 1995, he produced and directed the documentary “Merhaba Dünya” (Hello World) for TRT 1. In 1996, he directed film for television for a private television station. Also in 1996, he shot the Istanbul documentary for HABITAT. From 1997 to 1998 he worked on documentary films and programs in Germany. Between 2000 and 2005, he worked as the general coordinator for Umut Sanat Products’ Theatres. He built many film theatres and managed them. He was the general coordinator and program director for an international performance center between 2006 and 2007.Since 2004 he has been teaching at Istanbul Kültür University.
