CILECT Congress 2014: Pre-visualization

 

 

 

We are pleased to announce the optional excursions available to you and your families at the CILECT Congress 2014. To register for the excursions listed below please access your registration by clicking on the Already Registered? tab at the top of the CILECT 2014 website.

LAS VEGAS EXCURSION 

3-day/2-night trip to Las Vegas, Nevada

Price includes: 
• Departing the Newport Hyatt hotel at 10 a.m. on October 17 on a luxury motor coach traveling through the Mojave Desert to Las Vegas with one stop in the old mining town of Barstow for lunch.
• Two-night accommodation and breakfast at the historic Tropicana Hotel located on the Sunset Strip. With a recent $200-million dollar South Beach style renovation, the Tropicana is home to three acclaimed restaurants, supreme entertainment and luxurious spa.

Return travel is not included in this price and will be up to the individual to coordinate. The McCarran International Airport is 3 miles from the hotel. 

For more information on what to do while in Vegas, visit the website. There are multiple Las Vegas area tour companies that offer unique experiences, including an open-air bus tour of the Sunset Strip, helicopter tours of the Grand Canyon and even driving in a mini Baja dune buggy race.


LOS ANGELES & HOLLYWOOD EXCURSION 

Rate includes a two-night hotel stay and transportation during the weekend. Other expenses will be “pay as you go." Return transportation to LAX not included.

Hosted by Dodge College Associate Dean Michael Kowalski, this insider’s view of historic and culturally rich experiences will include a two night stay at the Double Tree by Hilton Downtown Los Angeles and three days of both hidden treasures and world famous tourist spots. The mood and desires of the group will determine the path.

DAY 1: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 17 –VENICE BEACH, SANTA MONICA PIER, BEVERLY HILLS, GETTY CENTER
Start the weekend on the West Side, visiting the Venice Beach canals, Abbot Kinney, Muscle Beach, the Santa Monica Pier and window shopping along Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.  Be inspired by the architecture and gardens at the Getty Museum (no admission fee). Housing European paintings, drawings, sculpture, illuminated manuscripts, decorative arts, and European and American photographs, spend a few hours exploring this jewel. 

Day 2: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 18 – HOLLYWOOD

Stroll the Hollywood Walk of Fame and find your favorite celebrity handprints at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater. At 10:30 a.m., tour the Egyptian Theater, permanent home of the American Cinematheque ($12USD) or head across to the Hollywood & Highland entertainment complex, take a picture in front of the “Hollywood” sign before touring the Dolby Theatre ($17USD). For those that want an expanded tour, use the Hop-on-Hop-Off Hollywood Double Decker Bus Tour ($45) to visit even more sites. We will also visit the original Farmer’s Market at 3rd and Fairfax and The Grove Shopping Center. End the evening with a sunset visit to theGriffith Observatory. Time permitting, guests will be able to see a live show in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium ($7USD).

Day 3: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 19 – DOWTOWN LOS ANGELES

Spend a leisurely morning exploring the Downtown Arts District, Little Tokyo, Chinatown and the Olvera Street Mexican Market - the “birthplace of Los Angeles.” Through the LA Conservancy, follow one of many self-guided tours to learn the history, architecture and revitalization of the area. See the sites of Harold Lloyd's 1923 feature Safety Last!, vintage movie palaces, the light-filled Victorian courtyard of the Bradbury Building, Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA.

 

Take advantage of the discounted Congress rate by registering prior to September 1. Any registrations received after September 1, 2014, will be assessed a 100 Euro late fee.
